Akhmat Grozny played out a 2–2 draw with Dynamo Moscow in an away fixture of the 12th round of the Russian Premier League.
Dynamo forward Ivan Sergeyev opened the scoring in the 17th minute, but Georgy Melkadze equalised for the visitors just four minutes later. In the 38th minute, Lechi Sadulaev failed to convert a penalty, sending the ball wide of the target. Late in the game, Egash Kasinthura put Akhmat ahead in the 88th minute, but Tyukavin’s goal deep into stoppage time (90+4’) rescued a draw for Dynamo.
After the match, Akhmat head coach Stanislav Cherchesov shared his thoughts and answered journalists’ questions at the post-match press conference:
— Your comments on the match?
It’s simple: the fans saw a good game. The team did what we had prepared for, and I liked how they reacted after conceding. In the end, it finished 2–2.
— What has improved in Akhmat’s play compared to the season’s opening matches?
Step by step, we are moving in the right direction. But for some reason, we can’t seem to finish such matches off. We played well against Lokomotiv and Rostov too, and could have won those games as well. There’s still work to do. In a couple of days we play Rubin, so we are already preparing for that match.
— Why was the team unable to hold on to the lead against Dynamo?
I can only state the facts: we didn’t manage to clear the ball properly, and other things happened on the pitch. Naturally, we always want to win, but there are still areas where we need improvement.
— What was the reason for substituting Lechi Sadulaev in the second half?
We needed to bring some freshness to the flanks. Despite missing the penalty, Lechi played an excellent match, especially considering his recent call-up and goal for the national team.
— You’ll soon play for a place in the Russian Cup playoffs. Are you planning a major rotation for the game against Rubin?
I don’t like the word “rotation.” We look at the players’ condition, and most of them are in good shape. We’ll see how things go. We just need to calmly prepare for Rubin and aim for a positive result.
