Akhmat Grozny suffered a 0–2 defeat away to Krasnodar in the Russian Premier League.
Jhon Córdoba opened the scoring in the 15th minute, and Diego Costa doubled the lead for Krasnodar on the 31st minute. Just before half-time, Akhmat forward Georgy Melkadze missed a penalty (45+1’), and in the 85th minute the Grozny side were reduced to ten men.
After the match, head coach Stanislav Cherchesov shared his thoughts and answered questions from journalists at the post-match press conference:
- I saw the ideas we had prepared being put into practice on the pitch. From the very first minutes we showed that we came here to win, but we were unlucky in front of goal. I congratulate Krasnodar on the victory and hope the fans enjoyed the game.
— Would you say this defeat was undeserved?
It’s not our style to make excuses. We need to review the match, analyse our preparation, and make the necessary adjustments. We hope to keep growing and reach a higher level. The goal is to ensure the team performs to its full potential.
— Did the missed chances and the penalty affect Melkadze mentally?
I haven’t spoken to him yet. Sometimes the goalkeeper just does a great job — it’s not always about the striker. We’ll analyse everything and keep working on our weaknesses while remembering our strengths.
— Did the seven-match unbeaten streak put any extra pressure on the team?
No, not on me. Our aim is to finish as high as possible in the table, not to chase streaks. They always end at some point — we just didn’t want it to happen today.
