Akhmat suffered a 1–2 defeat to Orenburg in the group stage of the FONBET Russian Cup.

 

The hosts opened the score in the 56th minute through defender Stanislav Poroykov. Akhmat midfielder Manuel Kelianu equalised in the first minute of stoppage time, but Vladislav Kamilov netted the winner for Orenburg in the 90+5th minute.

 

Head coach Stanislav Cherchesov shared his thoughts about the match at the post-match press conference:

 

— We knew it would be a tough game. In terms of quality, I think the spectators enjoyed it in some respects. Both teams wanted to win, and Orenburg had a bit of luck. We’ll analyse the game and prepare for the next one.

 

— Why Akhmat’s play slowed after an active start to the second half?

— We didn’t slow down — perhaps the opponents stepped up their game. A match lasts 90 minutes; no team can dominate from start to finish. We’ll review our performance and move forward.

 

— Are you satisfied about the players who came on as substitutes? 

—I was pleased with them. They came on and changed the game. It’s not easy to come into a match like this on an artificial pitch. We have things to discuss and analyse.

 

— What was the impact of the synthetic pitch? 

— I’ve been to Orenburg during my time at Zhemchuzhina. You can’t say it’s bad to play on. It’s just that not everyone can adapt. The pitch is in excellent condition, and it gives Orenburg, who train here regularly, a slight advantage. In both halves we showed glimpses of what we wanted to see — we just need to sustain it throughout the match. We’ll keep working towards that, step by step.

 

— Why did not Mansilla travel to Orenburg? 

— He has a hamstring injury. He’s training, and I hope that when we return, he’ll rejoin the main group. Hopefully we’ll see him back on the pitch here on 22 August.
