Russia national football team coach Stanislav Cherchesov has provided comments on the squad’s preparations to the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches.
- We are starting another round of UEFA Nations League in September and will play two matches against Serbia, Hungary and Turkey each. We have decided to play all three home matches (one in September and two in October) in Moscow.
This decision mainly stems from the fact that it remains unclear if spectators are going to be allowed into the stands. It does not make any sense travelling to the regions if spectators are not to be allowed.
Besides, the pandemic is not officially over yet and we need to be guided by the security protocol which is easier to comply with in Moscow.
As the national squad is headquartered in Novogorsk, we will have a choice of arenas to choose from. There are several modern arenas that are not far from our training camp so we do not foresee any problems and a specific venue for three matches must be expected to be announced soon. The Football Union of Russia also works on potential international friendlies in October (7/8) and November (11/12). UEFA provided this opportunity to national associations and we are planning to exploit that.
